Shanballymore

The Church of Christ the King Shanballymore

Church Information

This is an interesting example of an early twentieth-century Roman Catholic church reusing fine quality cut stone from the nineteenth-century chapel of Buttevant Army barracks. Its location on an elevated site makes it an important landmark building in the village of Shanballymore.

Notice: New Grave Allocation System at Shanballymore Church Cemetery

It has come to our attention that there has been some confusion regarding the allocation of grave plots at Shanballymore Church Cemetery. In order to streamline the process and ensure fairness for all parishioners, we are implementing a new grave allocation system effective immediately.

Here are the steps to follow for securing a grave plot:

  1. Contact Mr. John O’Donovan: Parishioners interested in purchasing a grave plot should reach out to Mr. John O’Donovan to select a suitable plot. Please note that at present, no more than two graves may be purchased per family due to plot availability.

  2. Arrange Payment with the Parish Buildings Office in Doneraile: Once a grave plot has been selected, parishioners must contact Garrett Roche at the Parish Buildings Office in Doneraile to arrange for payment. Upon payment, a receipt will be issued. The current cost of a single grave plot is €700.00 and €1,200.00 for a double plot.

  3. Submit Receipt to Mr. John O’Donovan: After receiving the payment receipt, parishioners must present it to Mr. John O’Donovan, who will mark the grave plot as paid, he will then register ownership of the Grave Plots in the Graveyard Register in the owners name.

Please remember that ownership of a grave plot is not confirmed until the parishioner possesses a payment receipt and has presented it to Mr. John O’Donovan. All Graves in the Shanballymore Church Cemetery must be purchased through the Parish Buildings Office.

We apologise for any inconvenience this new system may cause, but we believe it will ultimately lead to a fairer and more organized allocation of grave plots for all parishioners.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

V. Rev. Fr. Aidan Crowley, P.P.
Parish Priest of Doneraile
